Antique 19th Century Imperial Russian solid silver and niello presentation lidded tankard, parcel gilt, of traditional form, C-shaped handle terminating with a large thumb-piece, decorated with a niello enamel, depicting famous Moscow landmarks, the sides and top of the lid chased with foliate decoration and cockerel. Presented 'to Fred.k Cockburn Esq; presented by the Imperial Russian Commission, International exhibition 1862. International exhibition was a world's fair. It was held from 1 May to 1 November 1862, beside the gardens of the Royal Horticultural Society, South Kensington, London, England, on a site that now houses museums including the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. It featured over 28,000 exhibitors from 36 countries, representing a wide range of industry, technology, and the arts.
