19th Century Imperial Russian Silver tea caddy, square form with curved corners and canted sides, pull-off cover revealing the original silver mounted cork plug with Arabesque scroll handle, the body depicting a detailed and highly decorative engraving with batterfiles and fire breathing phoenixes among foliate scrolls, divided by a diagonal reeded sash, the lid also depicting a stylized foliate decoration.

Antique 19th Century rare Imperial Russian Solid Silver tea caddy, square form with curved corners and canted sides, pull-off cover revealing the original silver mounted cork plug with Arabesque scroll handle, the body depicting a detailed and highly decorative engraving with butterflies and fire breathing phoenixes among foliate scrolls, divided by a diagonal reeded sash, the lid also depicting a stylized foliate decoration.
Both the body and the lid are Hallmarked Imperial Russian silver (84, for 875 standard), Moscow, year 1886, Assayer's mark B.C (V. Savinsky or V. Smirnov), Maker's mark for Pavel Ovchinnikov, one of the greatest Russian jewellers and silversmiths of the 19th Century, appointed official purveyor to Tsar Alexander III and other European Kings.
