ANTIQUE 20thC INDIAN LARGE SOLID SILVER CUP & COVER, BOMBAY c.1900
20th Century Monumental Indian colonial silver presentation cup & cover. Of traditional form, standing on a wide spreading domed foot. Without the hallmark of ‘Bombay’ on this cups base, considering the high relief of repoussé work and large hunting scenes and the distinctive design of the trees, one would assume that this silver is from Lucknow. It would explain it as silversmiths from other regions such as Lucknow, migrated to this cosmopolitan business center of India (Bombay), and brought with them styles and techniques from their regions.
