19th Century Indian Cutch, Bhuj, Gujarat region Silver massive and magnificent scroll holder, of typical cylindrical form, extremely heavy gauge, decorated all over with exceptional Cutch chased work, that is distinguished by its closely worked, foliate, repoussé design against a finely tooled background, the sides are also chased with animals fighting each other, each incorporated into the scrolling foliage and emerging from it. The screw-in cap is also chased in the same style, the top featuring a seated woman.
Silver scroll holders were used both in Burma and India for the presentation of documents and as presentation cases for departing Colonial administrators.

This is an extraordinarily made Indian Colonial piece, excellent quality of workmanship and very heavy gauge. As often the case the piece is unmarked (acid tested show a 900+ silver standard), but is clearly the product of a prominent Indian silversmith, it probably dates to the 1910's.

In Great Condition - no damage, just general wear.
