19th Century Indian Cutch, Gujarat region Silver repousse' three piece Tea set, comprising of teapot, covered sugar bowl and cream jug. Each piece features an extremely heavy gauge, decorated all over with typically Cutch chasing work, distinguished by its closely worked, foliate, repoussé design. The body features a tightly scrolled foliate and floral work and against a finely tooled background, with animals running and hunting.
Unmarked (acid tested show a 900+ silver standard), but is clearly the product of a good Indian silversmith. It dates to the 1880's.

Description
Antique 19th Century very rare Indian Cutch (Kutch), Gujarat region hand crafted Solid Silver repousse' three piece Tea set, comprising of teapot, covered sugar bowl and cream jug. Each piece features an extremely heavy gauge, decorated all over with typically Cutch chasing work, distinguished by its closely worked, foliate, repoussé design. The body features a tightly scrolled foliate and floral work and against a finely tooled background, with animals running and hunting. Each lid made in the same style is surmounted by a cast cobra snake, and also the handles are modelled like cobras.
This is an extraordinary Indian Colonial set, excellent workmanship and very heavy gauge (1920 grams). As often the case the piece is unmarked (acid tested show a 900+ silver standard), but is clearly the product of a good Indian silversmith. It dates to the1880's.
