19th Century Indian Silver charger tray, of shaped-circular form, impressively large, heavy and magnificent and profusely decorated in high-relief. The central panel features a famous scene from the Mahabharata, one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India.
Acid tested and shows a 900+ silver standard, it dates between 1880 and 1890.

DESCRIPTION
Antique 19th Century Indian Solid Silver charger tray, of shaped-circular form, impressively large, heavy and magnificent and profusely decorated in high-relief. The central panel features a famous scene from the Mahabharata, one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India.
The scene represents the epilogue of the Infamous game of dice, that took place between Duryodhana and Yudhisthira (represented in the lower part, facing each other). Cheated, the former lost everything, including the beautiful spouse Draupadi. Then Duryodhana ordered Dusshasana to drag Draupadi out of the women's quarters and disrobe her in front of all the people present at court. Dusshasana followed the orders and pulled the princess out by her hair.
The rim is embellished with 12 medallions with Hindu deities.The stunning piece features an unusually heavy gauge (3100 grams), extremely detailed and great quality, surely made for an important commission.
It has been acid tested and shows a 900+ silver standard, it dates between 1880 and 1890.
