19th Century Indian Colonial silver Cutch presentation cup with cover, unusually shaped body resting on a circular domed foot, the sides applied with a scroll handles terminating with mythological winged lions, possibly the depiction of Sharabha a form of Shiva, where he is a half-lion, half-bird. He invokes this form when he is not being able to contain an angry Narasimha (Vishnu’s man-lion avatar).

DESCRIPTION
Antique 19th Century Indian Colonial solid silver Cutch presentation cup with cover, unusually shaped body resting on a circular domed foot, the sides applied with a scroll handles terminating with mythological winged lions, possibly the depiction of Sharabha a form of Shiva, where he is a half-lion, half-bird. He invokes this form when he is not being able to contain an angry Narasimha (Vishnu’s man-lion avatar). The piece is profusely and beautifully chased in typically Cutch (Kutch) style, with scrolls, flowers and beaded boarders, top and bottom mounted with a rim of large acanthus leaves. Top mounted with a removable lid made in a complimentary style. Hallmarked M.R BHUJ, Maker's mark for Mawji Raghavji, an important Indian silversmith contemporary of the more prolific Oomersi Mawji, who perfectly demonstrates his rivaling ability in this magnificent piece.
