DESCRIPTION
Antique 19th Century exceptional Indian Colonial solid silver tankard, tapering sides with two reeded bands with pierced shell thumbpiece on domed lid.
The tankard is of very heavy gauge, it takes influence from English pieces made in the Georgian period by English silversmiths.
The base bearing the Hallmark "GG" for George Gordon & Co, one of the most important silversmiths active in Madras since the early 19th Century (1821-1845). This cup is particularly early, as it probably dates to the 1820's.
