Antique 20th Century German Art Nouveau Solid Silver gilt trophy cup / vase, exceptionally embossed and chased with flowers, leaves and a butterfly, very fine craftmanship, the rim is engraved with a presentation inscription "EHRENPREIS SEINER HOHEIT DES HERZOGS GEORG VON SACHSEN-MEININGEN 1906".
Georg II, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen, reigned from 1866 to 1914 (please follow this link for more information).
The cup comes in its original fitted case stamped with the maker's and retailer's mark "Edward Wollenweber".
The foot is Hallmarked German silver (800 standard), Munich, year 1900-06, Maker's mark "Wollenweber" (Eduard Wollenweber).
The firm of Edward Wollenweber, celebrated goldsmith of the 19th Century and Royal Bavarian Court Silversmith and Jeweller, was the favorite of King Ludwig II, and they also made the silver-gilt funerary urn for the King's heart in the Royal Chapel at Altotting.
