DESCRIPTION
Antique 19th Century German (Hanau) solid silver exceptionally and impressively large lidded tankard, made in the style of the early 16th Century example. The body set with authentic coins from late 1700's to the late 1800's, the spreading base decorated with a large boarder in relief, set with a large scroll handle terminating with a scrolling acanthus leaf junction, laurel leaf swags and mounted with a satyr style mask, hinged domed cover in the same style applied with a floral draped shaped thumb-piece and mounted with a cast figure of a soldier with a spear and colonel mark amen flag. The base is hallmarked with German Hanau pseudo-marks (800+ standard), Maker, possibly Freidlander Brothers of Berlin.
