19th Century German Hanau Silver impressively large lidded tankard, in the style of the early 16th Century example, richly parcel gilt, beautifully chased and embossed with a very detailed and crowded wedding scene, surrounded by a scrolling foliage in relief on a matted ground and flanked by two panels embossed with a cherub sitting on two Mythological creatures amongst foliage, large figural handle embellished by a cast harpy, hinged domed cover in the same style applied with a stunning cast figural thumb-piece and large finial depicting a naked boy holding a shield with armorials.

Antique 19th Century rare and exceptional German Hanau Solid Silver impressively large lidded tankard, in the style of the early 16th Century example, richly parcel gilt, beautifully chased and embossed with a very detailed and crowded wedding scene, surrounded by a scrolling foliage in relief on a matted ground and flanked by two panels embossed with a cherub sitting on two Mythological creatures amongst foliage, large figural handle embellished by a cast harpy, hinged domed cover in the same style applied with a stunning cast figural thumb-piece and large finial depicting a naked boy holding a shield with armorials.
The base is marked with German Hanau pseudo-marks (the piece has been acid tested 800+ grade of silver), Maker's marks unidentified, it dates to year 1880's. This is an extraordinary presentation piece, stunning quality and impressive size.
