19th Century French silver candlesticks, exceptionally large and heavy gauge, each on shaped-quatrefoil base and embellished with shells and leaves, the cast supporting figures depicting the Goddess Demeter, the Olympian goddess of the harvest and agriculture, presiding over grains and the fertility of the earth, dressed in robes and holding a plentiful cornucopia in one hand and an two handled urn resting on her head.

DESCRIPTION
Antique 19th Century French solid silver candlesticks, exceptionally large and heavy gauge, each on shaped-quatrefoil base and embellished with shells and leaves, the cast supporting figures depicting the Goddess Demeter, the Olympian goddess of the harvest and agriculture, presiding over grains and the fertility of the earth, dressed in robes and holding a plentiful cornucopia in one hand and an two handled urn resting on her head. The tops of the candlesticks are with detachable nozzles.
Hallmarked French silver (950 standard, high grade silver), Paris, year about 1890's, Maker's Alphonse Debain (active 1883-1911). Alphonse Debain was a French silversmith, originating from a family of hereditary silver and gold makers. He produced exquisite tea sets and tableware of the finest quality.
