STYLISH 20thC FRENCH SHAGREEN MIRROR WITH HARDSTONES CABOCHONS c.1970
An extremely unusual rectangular covered in green dyed shagreen. Shagreen is an exotic shark skin often used on Art Deco furniture of the 1930s, highly prized today. Although a lot more recent in manufacture, this item of furniture draws inspiration from the early to mid 20th century pieces and adds a very contemporary twist with large hardwood cabochons encased in brass and strategically placed along two of the four sides to give a lovely asymmetry to the mirror. Quite possibly a one-off, it can be hung both vertically and horizontally, giving a unique look to any modern interior.
