19th Century exceptional Imperial Russian solid silver cigarette case, rectangular form with rounded corners, both sides decorated with the traditional Russian polychrome cloisonne enamel, particularly intricate design featuring stylized foliage and the inside is richly gilded. Both sides are Hallmarked Russian silver 88 (916 silver purity), Moscow, year 1886, Assayer's mark for Nikolay Korbitsky, Maker's mark for Pavel Ovchinnikov, one of the greatest Russian silversmiths of all time, appointed court supplier to Tsar Alexander III in 1865: the piece also bears the double headed eagle.
