ANTIQUE 19thC JAPANESE SOLID SILVER, ENAMEL & SHIBAYAMA KORO c.1890

Antique late 19th Century Japanese Meiji period Shibayama Koro (Incense Burner). The silver body is applied of very fine enamel work, both sides adorned with a finely carved circular panels of various colours of mother of pearl on a gold laquered (kinji) ground, one side depicting rope tied baskets and a vase on a pedestal base filled with flowers and other side with a geisha holding a brunch with handing wisteria and a mythical demon hiding inside a bell (bonsho). The sides mounted with delicate shaped handles and lid decorated with delicate shaded enamel within fine filigree reserves and mounted with a blooming chrysanthemum, standinf on a spreading base on c-shaped feet. The piece dates to the Meiji period (1890-1912), acid tested shows (950+ silver standard).

ANTIQUE 19thC BURMESE (MYANMAR) SOLID SILVER TEA SET, PEACOCK c.1890

Antique late-19th Century Burmese colonial solid silver three piece tea set, comprising of teapot, lidded sugar bowl, and creram jug, each piece is highly-decorative, chased and repoussed with a continous scene from Burmese mythology, applied with a elephant head handles, elephant head spout and each domed cover is surmounted with a kneeling figures. The quality of the tea set is simply outstanding, heavy gauge and very crisp. The side engraved with a large makers peacock mark, there are number of different variations of the peacock signature, all of whom are are indirectly claiming past royal patronage by using this mark (see Wilkinson's page 41), the set has been tested 900+ standard silver.
