DESCRIPTION
Ettore Sottsass was one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. Born is Innsbruck in 1917, he was raised in Turin and spent all of his professional career in Italy. He has many notable achievements in both architecture and design and worked with important names such as Olivetti, Knoll, Memphis, Poltronova, Alessi, Venini. He also designed famous building such as Malpensa Airport in Milan, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Ravenna, the Alessi store in Milan to name but a few. Sottsass created a vast body of work: furniture, jewellery, ceramics, glass, silver work, lighting, office machine design and buildings. He inspired generations of architects and designers. In 2006 the Los Angeles County Museum of Art held the first major museum survey exhibition of his work in the United States. These very rare lamps exemplify his work, using strong bold colours and linear design. Realised entirely out of glass they are a striking addition to any interior space, adding style and panache.
