ANTIQUE 19thC OTTOMAN SOLID SILVER & NIELLO PALASKA CARTRIDGE BELT BOX c.1840
19th Century Ottoman Empire silver and niello cartridge box (Palaska), of shaped rectangular form, hinged lid surmounted by a cast vase-shaped finial, the front and sides are beautifully niello enamelled with flowers and leaves.
This type of cartridge boxes (called Palaska) are particularly rare. The shape and style are typical of the Balkan and Greek Ottoman areas, this particular piece is very fine and most probably of Greek origin, it dates to year 1830-50.
Unmarked (as always the case) but acid tested shows a high 900+ silver standard.
