ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Charles Nephew & Co. was a prominent British silversmithing and retail firm based in Calcutta (now Kolkata) during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Catering to the colonial elite, the company was known for its high-quality silver products, often influenced by both British and Indian artistic traditions. Their pieces frequently featured intricate repoussé work, detailed engraving, and traditional Indian motifs, reflecting the fusion of Western and Eastern craftsmanship. Like other European firms operating in India, such as Hamilton & Co., Charles Nephew & Co. supplied fine silver goods ranging from tea services to presentation pieces, many of which are now sought after by collectors of Anglo-Indian silver.
