Antique early-19th Century Exceptional Swiss 18k gold & enamel snuff box, of rectangular form, the hinged lid is adorned with a charming village scene, depicting a carriage at a public house surrounded by riders, a child playing with dogs and drinkers outside. This scene is framed by a gold surround intricately chiseled with pilasters and entablatures.
The bottom and sides of the box are decorated with blue and black enamel on a guilloche background. The crowned letter M (possibly for Lamy Mercier & Co, 1804-1811), the exact crowned M mark is often found on music boxes made for Piguet & Capt - Sotheby's, lot 106, 11.06.2015, /// Sotheby's, lot 83 and 85, 08.06.2016.
