DESCRIPTION

Antique early-20th Century rare French Cartier Art Deco gold vanity case, of rectangular form with rounded corners, the lid set with a flower shaped thumb-piece, with jade and corals, mounted on platinum set with 6 old cut diamonds, the whole box is applied with black lacquer. The inside set with a beveled mirror, a lipstick holder and a lidded powder compartment. Comes with its original pouch.

Each part is Hallmarked French gold (eagle's head for 18 Karat gold and 750), signed CARTIER, MADE IN FRANCE, the box dates to 1920-25 and is a stunning example of the early Art Deco pieces made by Cartier and presented to the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs at Industriels Modernes (Paris, 1925), that marked the high point of the first phase of Art Deco. Such pieces are very valuable and sought after, often associated to the designer Charles Jacqueau.
