ART DECO STYLE HAND PAINTED WALNUT VENEERED COCKTAIL BAR CABINET

DESCRIPTION

This substantial solid wood cocktail cabinet, crafted by an iconic British furniture maker, embodies the design aesthetics of the 1950s while exuding the distinctive style of the Art Deco period. Its curvaceous and glamorous silhouette is accentuated by a restrained exterior, hand-painted in a durable black mineral paint and coated with an extra hardwearing topcoat boasting a satin sheen. The exquisite book-matched walnut veneer, meticulously revealed and protected with a satin hard wax oil, enhances its sumptuous sheen and ensures long-lasting beauty for generations to come.

A meticulous approach to preparation and process underscores the craftsmanship behind this piece. From the thorough surface preparation to the use of premium products, every detail contributes to its durable and lasting outcome. Functionality is paramount, ensuring that every aspect operates seamlessly alongside its captivating aesthetic.

While the exterior exudes restraint, the interior bursts with exuberance. Cubby holes for glass storage and ample cupboard space for bottles are luxuriously adorned in antique gold, meticulously lacquered for added protection. Decoupaged with opulent Art Deco-style paper by designers Zoffany, the interior doors and cubby holes complement the overall design scheme of gold, black, and walnut.

The drop-down central bar section features new mirrors, with the original Beautility gold striped mirror retained in excellent vintage condition. Original small mirrors in the cubby holes add to the piece's authenticity, bearing minor marks consistent with age. Gold and black stripes further enhance the Golden Age glamour of this stunning furniture.

Lined with tan leather conditioned with lavender-scented beeswax, the drawers exude sophistication. Remote-controlled LED lighting illuminates the two cubbies and central drop-down bar for night time ambiance.

All original hardware has been meticulously cleaned and painted. With its restrained exterior, this statement piece seamlessly complements both contemporary and traditional interior schemes.

A NOTE OF HISTORICAL INTEREST
 
Beautility was established by Simon Sadovsky in 1896 in Shoreditch. Sadovsky arrived in England from Russia in 1885 and probably initially worked for Harris Lebus or one of the other firms in the East End. His first work was English Revival furniture in mahogany and walnut. He was later joined by three sons, Ronald, Gerald and Harvey. Ronald went to the USA to study modern production methods and Harvey concentrated on publicity, advertising and marketing. By 1927 the firm had moved to larger premises in Hackney Road and in 1930, after Simon's death, the sons moved to a spacious, specially built factory at Angel Road, Edmonton. The firm adopted the brand name Beautility, which Harvey created. It became a public company in 1935. The firm continued to prosper and Ronald and Gerald retired in 1957, Harvey having died in the war. The firm was purchased by Isaac Wolfson's Great Universal Stores and then passed on to Bowater's who sold it, together with the Beautility name, to F Austin for just £1.
