Papier mache’ was a technique often adopted by the Victorians. Experts believe it originated in China as far back as 200 BC, where early forms of paper were already being made but the Victorian era was the height of its popularity realising items such as chairs, ink well, tables, trays and many more. Often inlaid with mother of pearl, these items are now highly collectable and due to their fragility only few have survived in such great condition.
