DESCRIPTION

Antique mid-19th Century Victorian display counter used in a chemist store to display and distribute sponges. The sponge was popular with Victorian ladies who would purchase these in a chemist shops, they were removed from the sponge basket, cut to the required size on the marble and sold accordingly. This piece also has a countertop till or box with a small drawer inside. Beautiful piece of period furniture, a very practical and a truly wonderful conversation piece capable of transporting the imagination to a bygone era.
