19th Century Continental Silver charger / wall plaque, of oval form, profusely and beautifully embossed and chased with cavalry battles in the style of the 17th-18th Century European paintings depicting a "Cavalry Skirmish", with armoured men on horseback among fighting and fallen infantry, this particular scene is set in front of a castle and by a river, with trees and rocks, cloudy sky, the border also embossed with four panels depicting soldiers resting and fighting in landscapes among floral festoons and shell and scroll panels. Hallmarked with French silver import marks (ET, 900+), used in Paris 1864-93, numbered "11249".

Antique 19th Century Continental impressive and magnificent Solid Silver charger / wall plaque, of oval form, profusely and beautifully embossed and chased with cavalry battles in the style of the 17th-18th Century European paintings depicting a "Cavalry Skirmish" (see for example the paintings by Jacques Courtois known as il Borgognone), with armoured men on horseback among fighting and fallen infantry, this particular scene is set in front of a castle and by a river, with trees and rocks, cloudy sky, the border also embossed with four panels depicting soldiers resting and fighting in landscapes among floral festoons and shell and scroll panels.
This piece features an exceptionally high and crisp decoration, probably the highest level of craftmanship that can be found in such decorative chargers, depicting a very unusual subject.
The charger is possibly originally German or Dutch and is Hallmarked with French silver import marks (ET, 900+ standard), used in Paris 1864-93, numbered "11249", no other mark can be found. It probably dates to year 1880's.
