ANTIQUE 19thC VICTORIAN CAST IRON FIRE RESISTANT STRONG BOX, MILNER c.1850

£1,995.00

Vintage 20th Century Victorian cast iron & brass strongbox safe, made by Milner. Primarily used for the transport of document or valuables. It would have been taken on long travels, perhaps on a long sea voyage or also used as a diplomats lock box when traveling. This model is rather special since it has a triple key locking mechanism on the front, very rare for these type of boxes as usually 1 lock is sufficient. The box comes with the original set of three keys.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Milner safes were renowned for their superior quality and were once among the world's leading safe manufacturers. Since 1958, the legacy of the Milner name has persisted as Chatwood-Milners under the Chubb group brand.

The Milner 212 patent is notable for its innovative fire-resistant technology. This involved a special blend of sand, sawdust, and alum crystals injected into the safe walls. During a fire, this mixture underwent a chemical reaction that ensured the interior temperature did not exceed 212 degrees Fahrenheit.
