Antique early 20th Century Japanese incredibly large gilt wood and lacquered pagoda.
The four-sided, two-tiered pagoda is meticulously hand crafted and assembled on a square shaped base with the bottom tier with four sets of staircases leading to the red alter.
The structure is held up by four wooden pillars adorned with gilt metal decorations. The middle tier is fitted with four Shaka Nyorai (Buddha) overlooking each corner.
The center is richly gilt over the intricate carved wood. The top of this two tiered pagoda has an carving of a tiger dragon, the symbolic pairing was believed to bring about the blessings of rain and peace. To roof made of lacquered panels imitating a tile finish. These tall pagodas symbolise the sacred mountains of legends and folklore, the top floor of a pagoda was usually the place where valuable treasures, jewels and artefacts were safely stored.
