DESCRIPTION
Antique mid-19th Century Victorian cast iron safe, primarily used for the transport of document or valuables this was one of the first fireproof safes available. A small cast iron English strong box with key and front opening door. This piece has a handmade mahogany stand commissioned in later years, c.1850. It would have been taken on long travels, perhaps on a long sea voyage or on the Orient express, also used as diplomats lock boxes when traveling on the continent, comes with a working lock and key.
