Antique 19th Century Chinese rare and exceptional solid silver wine ewer, impressive and exceptionally fine quality, baluster form, the body and base chased with chrysanthemums on matted ground, the handle naturalistically modelled imitating a branch, chased hinged cover surmounted by a similarly shaped finial.
The base hallmarked, with Chinese character marks and retailers mark for Luen Wo, this prolific retail Shanghai silversmith, worked mainly in the traditional style but is also recorded as having made Peranakan -style traditional silver items from 1880 onwards.
