The bowl is particularly large, heavy and very well crafted, by one of the most rare and outstanding Chinese silversmiths & retailers.
The base hallmarked, with Chinese character marks and retailers mark for Luen Wo (active 1880-1940, 42 Nanking rd), this prolific retailer & silversmith from Shanghai, worked mainly in the traditional style but is also recorded as having made Peranakan - style traditional silver items from 1880 onwards.
