ANTIQUE 19thC BURMESE SOLID SILVER THABEIK BOWL, MYANMAR, PEACOCK MARK c.1890
Antique late-19th Century Burmese (Myanmar) solid silver thabeik repousse' bowl. Exquisitely sizable and meticulously fashioned, this intricately embossed bowl boasts a substantial gauge, adorned in striking relief with seven distinct vignettes drawn from Burmese mythology. These scenes vividly portray an array of mythical beings and creatures amidst lush landscapes. The summit is adorned with delicately chased scrollwork, while the base features a lavish border of betel leaves. Displayed atop its authentic carved wooden pedestal, supported by three Chinthe guardian temple lions. The base engraved with a peacock mark, there are number of different variations of the peacock signature, all of whom are are indirectly claiming past royal patronage by using this mark (see Wilkinson's page 41)
