Description
Modern 20th Century rare and impressive Solid Silver cast "Stallion" stirrup cup, realistically modelled as a horse's head, extremely detailed and well made, richly gilt inside, stunning quality of the workmanship. Stirrup cups were originally used for making toasts at hunts and are so called for the practice of having one final drink "for the road" when one foot was already in the stirrup. This is a magnificent, huge and heavy piece in the style of the very rare and valuable Georgian and Victorian examples. Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1965 (k), Maker's mark "EBss" (Edward Barnard & Sons Ltd).
