This unique and extremely crisp cup and cover is based on the drawing by Hans Holbein the younger (1497-1543) - one of the greatest painters of the 16th Century, please follow this link - for the Jane Seymour's cup, commissioned by King Henry VIII to the painter Hans Holbein in 1536 (please follow this link). The actual cup, made of gold, was sold in Holland in 1625 on Charles I's orders, and it has been distroyed in the 17th Century.
Only another example of a similar cup made by Garrard & Co is known, and belongs to the National Museum of Wales (please follow this link).
