Antique 20th Century rare Edwardian Solid Silver "Teniers" style flagon, baluster form, exceptionally large size, the body is chased and embossed with rustic scenes of peasants merry-making, in the style of the 17th century Dutch painter David Teniers, hinged cover chased with flowers and applied with a shell-shaped thumb-piece.
The "Teniers" style in silverware has been invented by Edward Farrell in the early 19th century, but became very fashionable and popular in the late-Victorian / early-Edwardian period.
The front is engraved with a memorial inscription "LANCASHIRE HUSSARS point to point Steeplechase Challenge Cup".
Both parts are Hallmarked English silver (925 Standard), London, year 1901 (f), Maker's mark WSGS (W & G Sissons). The base is further hand-engraved with the retailer's mark: "Boodle & Dunthorne Liverpool".
CONDITION
In Great Condition - no damage, just general wear.
