Description
Antique 19th Century Victorian Solid Silver cased four persons Coffee service, exceptionally rare and magnificent, comprising of solid silver coffee pot, sugar bowl and milk jug, four coffee spoons and sugar tongs, plus four porcelain cups and saucers, beautifully hand painted and gilded. The coffee service, spoons and tongs richly parcel gilt, featuring an extremely decorative design, profusely engraved, cast figural handles. All the silver parts are fully Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, the coffee pot, sugar bowl and cream jug year 1894 (T), Maker's mark JATS (John Aldwinckle & Thomas Slater), the spoons year 1895 (U), Maker's mark TSWSHH (Holland, Aldwinckle & Slater). The silver service is absolutely original and by the same great manufacturer, only in consecutive years as often the case. The porcelain cups are Hallmarked with a Crown underneath, unknown to me. The whole set appears to be original and fits perfectly in the large leather bound box, still with the original key, stamped outside with the initials "A.S.L.M".
