19th Century Victorian Silver presentation lidded Flagon, richly gilt, impressively large and heavy, of baluster form on a spreading foot, the domed cover terminates with a large finial naturalistically cast as a child covered by a blanket, the quality of the casting is exceptional, a proper sculpture more than a finial. Large scroll handle with engraved heart-shaped motif, the sides and the cover are profusely engraved with scrolls and flowers. The spout is cast as an acanthus leaf, the front bearing commemorative inscriptions "Smithfield Club Show 1883, awarded to Thomas Myddleton for the best Hereford beast in the classes". Hallmarked English Silver (925), London, year 1855 (U), Maker's mark RH for Robert Hennell III.
