DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century Victorian solid silver gilt monumental figural centerpiece, raised on three cast foliate feet, the base is applied with a very crisp scrolling floral decoration, supporting three large and finely modelled classical female figures (The three graces), standing on grass and flowers, holding ring applied with a cast grapevine border, supporting a large cut-glass bowl.

The base is engraved on one side with an important family crest and motto 'Aquila non captat muscas - The eagle does not capture flies' belonging to the Dunbar-Buller Family. Also bearing the crest of the Clan Wedderburn, Lowlands - 'non degener - not degenerate'

Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1837 (B), Maker's mark EEJWB (Edward, Edward Jr, John & William Barnard).
