DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century rare Victorian solid silver christening set, comprising a fork, a knife and a spoon, each richly gilt and beautifully cast and chased in the "Canova" pattern, depicting the Graces in relief, inspired by the famous sculpture by Antonio Canova.

The pattern was first presented at the London's Great Exhibition in 1851, by Chawner & Co, for whom George William Adams was producing fine cutlery.

The set is particularly it comes in the fitted retailer's box stamped "T SHAW (...) GLASGOW".

All parts are Hallmarked English Silver (925 Standard), London, two year 1876 (A), one year 1875 (u), all parts with Maker's mark GA for George William Adams, silversmith specializing in fine cutlery and producing for Chawner & Co.
