DESCRIPTION

Antique mid-19th Century rare and magnificent Victorian Solid Silver three-piece table garniture / candelabra centerpiece, composing of three massive four-light candelabra.

The central one is surmounted by a cut-glass bowl and the detachable sconces can be removed and the four branches can be set with cut-glass bowls, turning the candelabrum in an impressive epergne for desserts.

Each impressive base cast imitating rocks, the stem realistically modelled like entwined grapevine branches with applied leaves and grape, terminating in four lights with detachable vine-pattern sconces, removable nozzles. The base is applied with family crests and coat of arms, one representing a fully modelled lamb holding a flag (Agnus Dei).

This is an exceptional and extremely impressive table garniture, very naturalistically modelled and detailed, by one of the greatest Royal silversmiths of all time.

Each part is Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1848 (n), Maker's mark crowned ISH (John Samuel Hunt, for Hunt & Roskell, successors of the Paul Storr firm, the most important English Royal silversmiths of all time). Each base is further stamped with the retailer's mark "HUNT & ROSKELL, LATE STORR, MORTIMER & HUNT", serial number "3320". A single candelabrum in a similar design sold in 2011 for £28750, please follow this link, while a set of three wine coolers also with a grapevine design made nearly £200,000, please follow this link.
