DESCRIPTION
Antique 19th Century Victorian silver mounted ram’s head snuff mull, the head is fitted with a silver double compartment for snuff and cheroots chased with thistles and centred by a facetted oval crystal, also applied with the badge of the clan Macpherson, the horns with silver thistle terminals with further backed crystals and with five silver and bone implements suspended from chains, on bone casters. This fine specimen of a ram was raised on Acharn Farm, Killin, by Stirling by John Macpherson. Whilst snuff boxes are relatively common, table snuff mulls like these are very rare and this is one of the best examples ever seen, without doubt a prized possession for a very wealthy family. Hallmarked Scotish silver (925 standard), Edinburgh, year 1872, Maker McKay & Chisholm.
