This is one of the best and most exceptional tea kettles we have ever seen, very heavy and crisp, tremendous condition and quality. The unusual subject and the highly decorative technique is clearly inspired by the contemporary creations by the well-known silversmith Edward Farrell, and this kettle matches in style and quality Farrell's sought after tea sets, suggesting that it might have been made to complete a set by Edward Farrell.
The stand, kettle and cover are Hallmarked Scottish silver (925 Standard), Edinburgh, year 1826 (u), Maker's mark crowned WM (William Marshall I, one of the best Scottish silversmiths).
