ANTIQUE 19thC SCOTTISH HORN, CITRINE & SOLID SILVER TABLE SNUFF MULL c.1870
Antique 19th Century Scottish very large table snuff mull. The name "mull" is dialect for "mill" and some snuff mulls featured divices for smashing snuff, this typical scottish design from the 1870's has been fashioned from an addax horn and decorated with silver mounts and set with a large cut citrine. Attached to the side of the addax horn is a shield shape plaque inscribed with "Presented to Robert Crom Esquire, St James Jamacia, By William Murray". Snuff mulls are often unmarked, this piece is solid silver which has been acid tested and shows to be 925 standard.
