Antique 19th Century exceptionally rare Victorian Solid Silver Novelty desk inkstand, realistically modelled as a cockatoo perched upon branches with applied leaves, one lid terminating in a candlestick, two branches as pen-rest, the shaped rocky base is set with a lidded inkwell fitted with the oval blue glass liner.

Victorian silver novelty inkwells are extremely sought after, this particular piece is extremely finely crafted and unusual, made by a very important manufacturer.

Each part is Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1859 (d), Maker's mark JCR (James Charles Edington, very important Victorian silversmith).
