19th Century Victorian silver centrepiece ewer, the baluster body is chased with scrolling foliage and flowers, applied scroll handle, the body features three large panels, two engraved with large steam boats (one engraved "CANADA 1902", the other "WEST AFRICA 1902"), the central panel bearing an important memorial inscription, the body is further applied with projecting winged harpies and masks in the taste of 16th century Renaissance ewers. Antique 19th Century Victorian solid silver monumental centrepiece ewer, massive size (67 cm tall), the baluster body is chased with scrolling foliage and flowers, applied scroll handle, the body features three large panels, two engraved with large steam boats (one engraved "CANADA 1902", the other "WEST AFRICA 1902"), the central panel bearing an important memorial inscription, the body is further applied with projecting winged harpies and masks in the taste of 16th century Renaissance ewers.
The inscription read as follows: "Presented to - by the Commanders of the Steamers in the various services of Mess.rs Elder Dempster & Co, in Commemoration of the honour of Knighthood recently conferred on him by His Majesty KING EDWARD VII, April 1902".
