19th Century Irish stunning Silver "Armada" pattern claret jug / ewer, with faux Ivory insulated scroll handle, the hinged lid has a nice cast scroll finial and opens squeezing the handle trigger. The piece is baluster form, has a domed circular foot and is profusely decorated in relief with embossed flowers, foliage and scrolls on a matted ground. The body also features two cartouches flanked by cast winged mermaid and mermen, one is engraved with initials, cast leopard at belly front. Hallmarked Irish Silver (925), Dublin, year 1892 (W), Maker's mark E.J for Edward Johnson.
