18th Century rare Georgian Silver lidded tankard, of baluster form, with applied girdle, domed cover, double scroll handle, the body profusely chased and engraved all over with scrolls and flowers, gilt interior, the front engraved with an important Indian Colonial-related memorial inscription: "Presented to Dr F. S. Arnott, by Major Gen. Willis, Bombay Army 1841", the chasing is probably contemporary to the inscription. Hallmarked English Silver (925), London, year 1764 (I), Maker's mark S.W for Samuel Whitford I.

S. Arnott, by Major Gen. Willis, Bombay Army 1841", the chasing is probably contemporary to the inscription.
The Bombay Army was the army of the Bombay Presidency, one of the British India presidency armies, belonging to the East India Company.
Each part is Hallmarked English Silver (925 standard), London, year 1764 (I), Maker's mark S.W (Samuel Whitford I).
