Antique late-19th Century Austrian exceptional solid silver gilt and hand painted enamel hunting horn. The silver gilt mounts pierced and painted with multi-coloured enamels, sections painted with classical hunting scenes and terminating in a realistically modeled fox head and paws. The horn supported by a mythical winged hippocamp.
Hallmarked Austrian silver control mark (800 standard, used 1867-1922), Vienna, circa 1890, Maker's mark KB (Karl Bank, active 1895-1924), later French guarantee marks (swan).
CONDITION
Restoration and enamel losses, lacking a lid.
