DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century Georgian Solid Silver cup, large size and impressively heavy gauge (1750 grams), richly gilt, campana form, pedestal foot with fluted decoration, the body is applied with a magnificent cartouche representing a figure wearing a draped toga, holding a snake wrapped club, a resting dog below, which represents Asclepius, the god of medicine in Ancient Greek religion (please follow this link). The medallion bears the Latin motto "SALUTI HOMINUM", meaning "Health to Mankind".

This is an impressive and magnificent piece, the original use for such an impressive cup was mainly decorative, often given as a trophy or presentation piece, but nowadays it can be used as a fancy ice bucket and wine cooler, or to hold flowers.
