ANTIQUE 19thC GERMAN SOLID SILVER WINE GOBLET, HANAU c.1850

Antique mid-19th Century German solid silver goblet, made in the style of the early-17th Century examples, which were originaly made in Augsburg and Nuremberg. The piece beautifully embossed with scrolling foliage, panels depicting mythological battle scenes in landscape, the foot applied with protruding lions and the cup with grotesque masks, chased floral boarders, flared rim and doomed foot.

Hallmarked with the German Assay mark 13 (812 standard), used in the late 18th to mid 19th century in Prussia and Germany, possibly made by Wolf & Knell. From the middle to the end of the nineteenth century copies of old silver and items designed in an amalgamation of historic styles, satisfied customer demand and preference. Many firms in Europe and in the United States produced this type of silver.

With the demand for antique style silver in the 19th century, Hanau silversmiths quickly found a market niche, which brought its silver manufacturers enormous prosperity and worldwide reputation.

ANTIQUE 19thC GERMAN SOLID SILVER WORMS SHOOTING PRESENTATION CUP, HANAU c.1895

Antique late 19th Century German solid silver cup and cover, featuring stunning workmanship, made in the Renaissance style, it stands on a circular domed foot chased with a foliate decoration and grapevine bands to the lid, the body chased with a medival knight leaning on a crowned shield, surrounded by scrolling foleage on a matted ground, depicting the key and star (Worms town coat of arms). This is an impressive and decorative piece, presented at the Verbands Schiessen Worms (shooting festival at Worms), July 1895, Hallmarked German silver (800 standard), Maker's mark for Bruckmann & Sohne, active 1805-1973.
